02 Nov Been Hit by a Third Party? What Should You Do After the Accident?
Sometimes accidents are unavoidable even for the most careful driver. So what should you do if somebody else runs into you?
The first and foremost thing you’ll want are the details of the third party driver. This crucial information includes their:
- Full name
- Address
- Phone number
- Registration and make/model of the vehicle they were driving
It is often a good idea to request a photo of their driver’s license, as this will verify their name and address. We also recommend you take a photo of their vehicle with a clear view of the number plate.
Ideally you will also be able to take photos of the accident scene before the cars are moved. While most drivers will take responsibility for their at fault driving, this will help you in the event that they try to deny fault later. If the cars have already been moved to clear traffic, take photos of the damage on both of your vehicles.
It is also worth asking which insurance company they are insured with for future reference.
Obtaining all this information just after the crash occurs will make the rest of the process much less of a hassle. More to come soon on handling your not at fault claim.
